New! eBooks with Overdrive

Teston Village Public School is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students and we are pleased to introduce a new, free reading service providing digital books through OverDrive (

Why OverDrive?
The OverDrive collection is an extension of Teston Village’s physical library, only it’s online with 24/7 access to eBooks and audiobooks. It’s convenient for students to check out titles at home, on the weekends or during school breaks with no worry about misplacing a book or running up late fees – these digital titles automatically return at the end of the lending period!

OverDrive can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension.  Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service.

  • Enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation
  • Introduce students to books above their reading level
  • Teach critical listening
  • Help busy kids find time to read

How does it work?
To use OverDrive, students browse our secure custom website, borrow with their YRDSB username (9-digit computer login) preceded by a zeero (ex. 0444555666), and enjoy anytime, anywhere on a computer, tablet, smartphone or eReader.

Whether a student’s interest lies in study guides, classics for required reading, or the latest popular juvenile or young adult fiction, they can find it all in the digital collection through OverDrive at

New Book Search Page

Welcome back to a new school year and a new TVPS Search Page. The page has just launched and I’ve only just begun exploring it myself. One of the things I like about it is that it features new books that we’ve just added to the collection. It also gives students quick access to many of the electronic tools that they have access to such as Encylopedia Britannica and Bookflix. I’m looking forward to exploring the new page and finding out what it can do. Please let me know if you find any interesting or exciting features.

In addition to clicking on the Book Search link above, you can reach the site at on any device (including tablets and smartphones).

Scholastic Book Fair Next Week

Teston Village Public School will be hosting its second book fair of the year next week. Students will be able to preview books on Monday and Tuesday with their classes and return later on in the week if they’d like to make a purchase. We’re very excited to be offering an excellent selection of books.

The book fair will be open daily in the library/learning commons between 9:15 am and 3:00 pm. On Thursday, we’ll stay open after school until 5:30 to give parents/guardians a chance to visit with their children.

Here’s a trailer for just one of interesting picture books we’ll have available. See more at the Scholastic Book Tube page. (more…)

Indigo Adopt a School

I am thrilled to report that Teston Village Public School has once again been selected to participate in the Indigo Adopt a School campaign, a program that resulted in the purchase of hundreds of new books for our school last year. The Chapters Woodbridge store is our partner in this program and we are deeply appreciative to the staff and customers there in supporting our school library. You can find out more about the program and vote for our school at The program runs between September 18 and October 8. More updates will follow as the program gets underway.

Students can recommend a book to purchase by completing this form.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to another year at Teston Village Public School and the Learning Commons. We are continuing to build our collection of books thanks to the Indigo Adopt a School program and I will have many opportunities for you to read, learn and create in the Learning Commons.

One thing that you should be aware of is that you will no longer be able to exchange books if you have an overdue or missing book. This is to ensure fairness, especially with new books that are in high demand. I hope it also reduces the number of books that get lost over the course of the school year. You can read more about the book exchange policy here, and if you are a parent, you can sign up for email notifications of missing/overdue books here. Students who have access to their YRDSB GAFE Email accounts will also receive reminder emails there.
